if you're a bat; i'm a bat.

i am currently at my parents' house with a ridiculously sore/dead arm because i got all these injections today. now my shoulder is all swollen and the general dull pain is creeping up my neck into my head. i hate injections...needles are one of my greatest phobias and today's needles were no exceptions...but necessary evils, right??

i have had a strange couple of weeks and still have a strange couple of weeks to come...all culminating in...well, i don't know what. i guess i'm just riding things out and seeing what happens/whether that is good or bad etc.

i lost my glasses at pukkelpop. annoying but no biggie. i also got my watch pickpocketed/lost. yeh THAT watch. i still haven't even been able to bring myself to tell my dad. it's not even the money it is worth...just the fact that it was such a thoughtful gift for my twentyfirst birthday and had real sentimental value.

i started my new/old job last week and it has been awesome so far. generally...once this week (especially tomorrow) is over i'm thinking things will calm down a bit. which is nice.

i can't wait to have internet in the house so i can actually blog properly...rather than saving up a fortnight of rants for one quick, heavy-armed post. :]

in other news: sunday was european day of the bat!! obsessed still.

(can't remember where i got this picture, sorry)

tonight my sister and i watched the notebook with my nanny. she cried for half the movie but really loved it. things like this remind me how happy i am to be back with my family and free to hang out with them at pretty much the drop of a hat. it's a good thing to keep in mind when i'm bitching about missing madrid so much. :]

i hope everyone is doing great!!

new things.

ive been talking about "exciting impending events" for a ridiculously long time now. so in short...here are few new occurrences (one slightly unexpected) to keep everyone up to speed...

new house...with a bitchin' blue wall in the back yard...for which my mother has promised to give me one of her 12 foot tall sunflowers!!:] we're currently trying to get the place in order to whatever extent our highly impoverished selves can afford...so maybe i'll do a little post about the place once it feels ready.

new (dash kind of old if anyone picks up on previous posts he's featured in) boy shaped thing. he likes the dismemberment plan and my sidecut. he aiiite. :]

new project that i am contributing to. it's a belfast/northern ireland music blog-meets-zine type thing. i'm really excited for this cos it has loads of potential. it is still in the early stages but that just seems to make it more fun to be involved in. check it out if yr in any way musically inclined cos it covers a lot of stuff such as live reviews for touring bands etc etc etc.:
tracemagazine.wordpress.com.

i'll put a link up to the side anyway.

and fiiinally...i can reveal that there are new musical aspiration based things taking place as well. but no more about that until i have more to share. oop!!:]

last but not least...it is my little sister's seventeenth birthday on sunday. i can't believe she is seventeen...unreal!! but i also can't believe how little money i have at such a crucial time of the year. i have promised to buy her an N*E*R*D tee shirt when i am at pukkelpop in a few weekends time...but any suggestions as per nice (but ridiculously cheap, or preferably, FREE) small gifts i could give dash make for her on the day would be highly appreciated.

happy weekending!!

it's a'comin'...

BC BBQ BBZ!!exclaim.

as you may know...12th of july is kind of a controversial day in northern ireland. it involves bonfires...and parades...which are words that bring to mind funtimes. however...these bonfires and parades are not necessarily THOSE kinds of bonfires and parades...and things have a tendency to end messily.

which is why all the cool kids (for which read "my friend john and i plus all our geekish counterparts") would rather celebrate that other thing that the date is famous for...THE BIRTH OF BILL COSBY!!

it's going to be hectic. i literally cannot wait to get on the bus tomorrow. there will be a barbecue, a bonfire with a burning effigy, live music and a lot of people i haven't seen for a long time. plus a beach. now all we need is for the weather situation to improve.

oop...plus these guys are playing. check them out, i am their official merch girl...merch is on its way i swear. on a none band related note yesterday i led the two singers up a mountain in my hometown (photos to come) which was some of the best fun ever. it was a really beautiful day and you could see the whole town and beach below. i've missed that.

anyway...i'm gona go try to get an early night in preparation for tomorrow.

homebird sing, leave out nothing, tell me everything...

in ireland, this is where i live...

please ignore the dirty post-storm beach though, it's not always like that i swear. i just thought i'd take a moment to share some of my friend ger's photography. he's just under two months off finishing a 365. sorry these are pretty much all of me, but i wasn't sure how other people would feel about me posting their faces here.:]

you can see the other, more interesting stuff at so-says-gerard.

(last night out together at easter, pukkelpop 2008, midnight in belfast last summer).

ya te echo de menos!!

talking to people from home and missing graduations and not being around to help my little sister destress for her first "important" set of exams has me missing ireland a little. but at the same time, there is nowhere in the world i'd rather be right now than madrid. and i am so aware of how quickly the last few weeks are slipping by and how much i am going to miss this place. i have never felt so completely torn in my life before. either way...i wore this shirt out on wednesday night as an homage to home...

h&m cardigan, liberty blue teeshirt, primark tube top as skirt, primark tights, converse.

cat and fritzileine and i enjoyed a much needed girly night out including botellón at the fountain, tequila shots through straws and a lot of dancing. all the traditions, oop.

and...i saw my first gecko of summer!! happybat:] i also saw my first cockroach...but i'm dwelling on that less. all i need is for the crazy heat to subside just a LITTLE!!

alcoholiday...

the dazzling conor...who is so dazzling he was featured in the fashion section of this magazine...but i can't find the photos of the actual spread.

crunk faces with michael...who went to a gig i couldn't attend (though i went to see a friend's band play a fantastic show instead) and also got papped by the same magazine.

a birthday picnic in the park for ella's 21st birthday!! featuring the best mexican ever and an exciting diy cake.

me being very mature during the birthday cookie baking experience.

pac man cookie!! which i owe him more of...there, now you have it in writing, happy??

belfast sight seeing with the lovely cristina who visited from spain!! this is the sad fish.

a little hit of nostalgia on the walk to my old house...my brother's tag. when i see these in belfast they make me smile cos i remember the night he drew them during one of his visits home from amsterdam.

ella's amazing vest...that we like to consider an homage to david bowie. i think it's from asos.com.

a sketchy night out with two of my boos and future housemates!!:]

easter sunday at my house with my lovely english guests, before we all had a wee bit too much wine and champagne. :/

all in all i had one of the best easters ever!! it was so great to just get to catch up and hang out with my friends and family again. sadly all the pretty scenic photos i have from my mountain adventures etc were on a disposable camera. i can't wait 'til my mum sends me the prints from it!!

i am currently fighting my way through an evil philosophy of law essay which i need to have finished by sunday in order to start all my other work. and i have essentially put myself under house arrest as i am without my flatkeys and all my flatmates have gone away for a festival this weekend without leaving me a set. :/ i may go stir crazy.

i have exciting things to blog and exciting things going on in life in general at the minute though. for tomorrow.

i'm so clever, oh but clever ain't wise...

zara dress, jonathan aston tights, babyshambles tee shirt (attacked with scissors), primark mens cardigan (stolen from gavin).

i've literally just had one of the best weeks ever!! from days spent reading and lying in the sun at the harbour, burritos and coffee dates with my dad, mountain walks and breakfasts/lunches with my mum, wee nights out dancing and watching a friend's band, nights in with my boos, a birthday cake and chill out time in the park and a pin-up themed fancy dress party...all in all, a ridiculous amount of fun!!

i'll put up a few photos as soon as i get the chance...but for now i'm going to make some hot chocolate and curl up in bed with a book...as this is my first chance to get an early(-ish) night since last wednesday!! also...i figured i'd post a quick outfit. i got the babysambles tee shirt two or three years ago at a gig but haven't worn it in ages...so i decided to cut it into a shape i might wear a bit more often. i had to put the little fabric star over the "u" to clam my mum down when i first got it, hee. :] the world may disagree, but i think pete doherty is amazing!!

playing dress up...

i have/had a birthday party with a "pin-ups" theme to go to on friday which i think i've decided on an outfit for. today my little sister and i were trying out various haor and make-up ideas which turned into a general fancy dress session and ended with us dancing around our living room to yeah yeah yeahs. :] the scarf on my head was a present my mum got me from a wee vintage shop in my hometown...i adore it and want to wear it constantly!! i love that my mum shares my scarf obsession. she also gave me a tan belt she used to wear when she was my age that i have had my eye on for years now!!

oh, and my camera is neeearly charged!! yay.

now you know me better baby i'm a quitter...

okay so i got tagged aaand awarded by the lovely sophia of tictactomato to do the show your heart tag and the questions tag. however...at the moment my camera is powerless and i am using my dad's laptop so for now i can only really do the questions tag. hopefully i will be able to post the other tag and maybe some exciting ireland pctures sooooon.

What is your current obsession? baking!! i am going to bake easter cookies with my sister soon and i have a million other ideas of things i want to bake.
What are you wearing right now? a huuuge red plaid shirt stolen from my friend jay with a bow at the neck, wooly tights and my falling apart studded booties.
Who was the last person you hugged? i hugged my daddy goodnight a minute ago.
If you were a tree, what tree would you be? at this precise moment in time, either a cherry blossom tree or a weeping willow. don't ask me why for either cos i have no clue. :]
What’s for dinner? tomorrow=my mum's veggie lasagne and i cannot wait!!
What was the last thing you bought? a bus ticket home.
What are you listening to right now? animals by cocorosie.
What is your favourite weather? crisp, cold but DRY autumn mornings or evenings make my life!!
What’s on your beside table? some jewellery boxes, a lava lamp, a bombay sapphire lamp, old bottles with candles in them, alarm clock, glass of water and many books, graphic novels and cds...i ought to tidy. :/
Say something to the person/s who tagged you. sophia...i'm so glad you found me, your blog is so sweet and i am quite jealous of your obvious artistic skillzzz!!
If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be? stockholm!!
Where are you typing from right now? father's laptop.
A book you're currently reading? i've been rereading the bell jar as i didn't bring enough books to spain with me. also the second volume of top ten (i tend to always have a novel and a graphoc novel on the go at the same time, oops). and at the weekend i read howl, ashamedly for the first time ever and i am now in awe.
What would you like to have in your hands right now? the ability to handle all the things i am currently a shamm with much more successfully!!
What is your favourite tea flavour? too hard it depends on mood...regular, green, chamomile, peppermint...i just love tea in general!!
What did you eat for breakfast? banana on toast VERY quickly cos i overslept and was late for a dentist appointment. :/
What did you want to become as a child? a singer, a clothing designer or an aeronautical engineer like my dad...lawl!!
What is your fantasy? to be well travelled, well informed, content in a house filled with charmingly tacky things...and to be really understood, even if only for one small moment in my eentire lifetime.

and now i would like to tag:
rachie pie.
lauh-ren.
valentina.
aaandella...who is actually one of my best friends who now follows this blog (and is yet to make fun of me for it, how nice:]) but who i am now going to bully into posting on her own blog!! [i love you really boo<3]

anyway off to bed i go...tomorrow i am clambering up some mountain with my mum and her friend who wishes to practice her spanish with me. clearly nobody told her how bad i am. :]

i wanna be a hippy and i wanna...

tonight some our friends who live in halls threw a "bienvenida la primavera" cocktail party with a hippy theme. which pretty much meant headbands and painting flowers on our cheeks. they had decorated their roof terrace with little tealight candles and cutout flowers and scattered cushions everywhere...it looked amazing as well as being very comfy!!

zara dress, primark tights, topman teeshirt (attacked with scissors), converse.

in other news...i leave for ireland this evening (i'm writing this at seven am because i just got home) and i still haven't packed properly!! and i can't find my backpack for hand luggage ANYWHERE!! augurs well...

homeslices...

last night in madrid...with my new bling.
inverted colours:]
pulp fiction plus peter pan poses apparently.
japanese birthday dinner...yum!!<3
the best vegetarian miso soup i have ever tasted plus other assorted delights!!
miffy birthday cake...yes i did make this from scratch and by hand...yes it was time consuming. and messy!!

yeh i don't have many photos as i kept forgetting my camera but it was so good to be home again for a while. i definitely feel more ready for this term now and a lot less homesick than i did after christmas when i was sick and feeling sorry for myself.

most annoying of all is probably the fact i didn't take any outfit posts...especially after my last post as i could have illustrated my point better. oh well!!

off to bed now as i have a whole day of classes tomorrow and have been out tonight as it was alexis' last night before he returns home to paris. not sure how i feel about that. again, oh well!!

the calendar hung itself...

dad's teeshirt, sister's leggings, bershka waistcoat thing.

well, so much for my promises to update when i was in ireland...my dad's laptop was acting screwy so between that and me never really being in the house for any prolonged periods of time, i kinda failed. the above is a prime example of what happens when i go home with a whole lot of laundry to be done...i end up meeting my mother for lunch wearing various garments pilfered from the closets of the other people in the house whilst waiting for my clothes to dry. :]

i realised over the past couple of weeks that i think i dress better, or at least more like "me", and have more confidence when i am at home in ireland. i don't know whether it is because i have friends there who have always known my style and are into similar things, being able to steal items from my dad/boyfriend/sister, the fact that there seems to be more inspiration or just that i have more clothes there. or maybe it is a mix of all of the above. plus the fact that i get the strangest looks when i go to class here in spain wearing anything remotely different than boots jeans and a poloneck etc...which is pretty much all the time. but i still don't wear half the things i love to wear at home because they either seem a)impractical or b)like noone would "get" it.

which is weird...because i've never really dressed according to what anyone else tought before...and now i'm wondering if that is what i am subconciously starting to do?? scary. and a little annoying.

anyway...i have a few more photos from my visit that i would like to post but they will probably have to wait as being back to classes has made me tired and i need cammomile tea (yum<3), skype time with the boyfriend and sleeeepz!!

lovecountsinbeats...

dress: topshop

In full awareness that this is the first outfit post in aaaaages, i apologise that it is oh so very lame.

unfortunately with all these exams to revise for (starting with an oral on european law tomorrow, eek) and the fact that i have now been ill and unable to leave the house for four days; i have been living in tee shirts, leggings and comfy dresses.

i got this one from topshop in the sale last year...it was like a tenner...but technically i got it for free cos the girl at the desk forgot to ring it through. i didn't notice until it was too late but i still feel really bad about that (mostly cos there's more of a backstory to WHY she forgot). but then i used to work there, and ten pounds is nothing to them...so i'll just chalk it up as a stroke of luck?? it's woollen, so nice and warm...but i've worn it in summer too. i just love the tiny little stripes and the collar:

and yes i am tightless in zero degree weather...but only because this illness has provided me with a pretty high temperature...i wouldn't endorse going anywhere in madrid without several layers right now. i think my flatmates think i have gone insane because i constantly have my window open.

well...back to revision i go. and to dream of the fact that in a week's time all these awful exams will be over and i will be organising two weeks of cosy pubs, cinema dates and home cooked meals in ireland. :]
